Physical Education

Grant Park students are expected to change clothes for Physical Education class. The appropriate P.E. uniform consists of a grey T-shirt, green shorts (purchased through the school) and tennis shoes. All students will receive a P.E. locker and lock ($5.00 if lost). Uniforms should be kept locked in these lockers and taken home at the end of the week to be washed.

Each student will be graded in Physical Education by the following guidelines:

80% - Cooperation, Attitude, Sportsmanship, Effort (CASE)

10% - Written Tests, Skills Testing

10% - ETA

Every student begins each quarter with a 100% for his or her CASE grade. Percentage points will be deducted for the following examples:

A. Arguing (2) I. Intimidation (1-3) S. Swearing (1-3)
AC. Annoying classmates (2) J. Jewelry (2) T. Tardy (2)
C. Unsports. Conduct (2) L. Loitering (2) U. Improper Uniform (1)
D. Disrespect Teacher (6) LS. Low Shorts (2) X. Excessive Noise (1-3)
E. No Effort (1-3) M. Gross Misconduct (10) RB. Reckless behavio r(1-5)
F. Following Directions (1-3) O. Out of Area (2) LB. Lewd Behavio r(1-5)
G. Gum/Candy (2) P. Destruction of Property (10) LC. Lewd Comment (1-5)
H. Horseplay (1-3) R. Ridiculing (1-3) ND. No Dress (20)

We are teaching a variety of skills, activities and games and we encourage all students to participate each day.  THE FIRST TWO TIMES A STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE HIS/HER UNIFORM WILL BE CONSIDERED FREEBIES.  THE THIRD TIME A STUDENT DOES NOT DRESS THEIR CASE GRADE WILL BE LOWERED 20 POINTS.  EACH ADDITIONAL NO-DRESS WILL ALSO LOWER THEIR CASE GRADE 20 POINTS.  IF STUDENT DOES NOT DRESS, BUT PARTICIPATES, HE/SHE WILL ONLY RECEIVE A HALF NO-DRESS.

Our philosophy is based on courtesy and kindness in class.  Students will NOT make fun of or ridicule others.  Foul language will not be tolerated.

Aerosol sprays and pump sprays are not allowed to be used in locker rooms (axe, etc.).  You may go out to cement pads to apply sprays.

Students are expected to and will be graded on participation in all activities unless excused for medical reasons.  Students will be allowed 3 ABSENCES from class, per quarter without deduction (this includes: excused absences, unexcused absences, parent notes, teacher notes, etc.).  Doctor's notes will not be classified as an absence.  After the 3rd absence 5 effort points will be deducted from student's case grade.

It is important that students know and understand the rules and regulations of each activity, therefore, written tests will be given.  All tests given will be averaged together and will make up a portion of the students overall P.E. Grade.
